Trail Updates
Trail Maintenance is ongoing on all trails. Please report problems to Riley Hatch at Public Works at 828-387-9282 or Fred Pfohl at 828-387-4838.

New plans are in the works to continue the Falls Trail, making it a loop to connect back to the Grassy Gap Creek lower trail head. Winter work will continue on this project. Check with Greg at the Rec Center if you are interested in helping. Call 828-387-3003.

We are looking for folks to Adopt-a-Trail. Contact Craig at the Buckeye Rec Center at 828-387-3003. Be a part of making Beech Mountain a great place.

Please watch for a posting of the new trail workday schedule.

B.J. Hughes and Sean McNay
B.J. is a local sportsman who is very familiar with what's going on in our forests. He and Sean maintain the hiking trails on Beech. B.J. also leads the monthly hikes, so be sure to check out this seasons schedule and be sure to join him.

Summer mowing on the Wild Iris Trail continues to be done by Rory Ellington and looks great! The large wash out at the Cherry Gap end which has been filled in last year and continues to hold.

Apple Watch: on many of the Beech Mountain trails there are spots where old house places can be found often with fruit trees around it. Wild Iris Trail has a plumb tree, but the bears like them, too . . . so beware! Apple trees of old time varieties can be found along this same trail, as well as in the Westerly Hills. Keep your eyes open for "them apples."

UPPER POND CREEK TRAIL:
Work has been completed on bridge railings to ensure safe crossings. Don't forget to pick up the trail guides at either end of the trail.

LOWER POND CREEK TRAIL:
A new route on the lower section has been cut. In early 2006 Bob Maher, a good friend of the mountains and a former resident, along with his friends and family, spent a day rerouting the trail. Now you do not have to cross Pond Creek and can stay on the east side all the way though. Thanks Bob!

New trail signs have been placed along the new section thanks to Gil Adams.

THE FALLS TRAIL:
Newest in our trail system. Check it out if you already haven't!!!

The new fence is up to help direct hikers behind the water treatment plant. Spots along Buckeye Creek are great to stick your feet in and cool off during the summer. But watch out for slippery rocks. And, don't forget, children should always be accompanied by parents. This is a great hike and be sure not to miss it!

A picnic table is planned for the end of the trail.
